Privacy Policy
This page describes what the site actually does today. When that changes, this page changes with it.
If you don’t sign in
You can use all of Insurpedia without an account. Your learning progress (what you’ve completed, your answers to knowledge checks and assessments, and the Learning XP and Insurance IQ they earn) is saved in your own browser and isn’t sent to us. Exercise checklists are saved in your browser too. Clearing your browser’s site data removes all of it.
The tools (Coverage Builder, Deductible Calculator, Preparedness Checklist, Scenario Explorer) run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type into them is saved or sent anywhere. We only note, in your own progress, that you’ve used a tool.
If you sign in
Signing in is optional and uses “Sign in with Google.” When you sign in, Google tells us your email address, confirms it’s verified, and gives us a stable account ID. We store that email and ID, and nothing else about you: not your name, not your photo, and never your Google password.
We also store your learning progress with your account so it’s available on any device: which lessons, terms, scenarios, and journeys you’ve completed and when, your knowledge check and assessment results, your Learning XP and Insurance IQ, and the days you were active. We don’t ask for, and don’t want, your insurance policies, policy numbers, address, or financial details.
So that scores can’t be faked, your browser also reports each learning step to us as it happens (opening, completing, answering, using a tool), and we keep a dated record of each step and the points it earned. That record contains only what you did on Insurpedia and when, not your IP address or device details.
To keep you signed in, we set one cookie (__Host-insurpedia_session). It holds a random token, and we store only a scrambled (hashed) version of it. It expires after 30 days, or when you sign out. Google’s sign-in script loads only when you open the “Sign in” button in the header, or on theMy learning page while you’re signed out.
How long we keep it, and deleting it
We keep your account and progress for as long as you have an account. You can download everything we hold about your account, or delete your account, at any time from My learning. The download is a file containing your email and account ID, your sessions’ dates, your progress, and the full record of learning steps and points described above, plus the copy of your progress saved in that browser. The only thing left out is the scrambled session token, which is a security key rather than information about you. Deleting your account removes your email, account ID, sessions, progress, and that record from our database immediately. When you sign out, the copy of your progress in that browser is cleared too, so a shared device doesn’t keep it.
Before accounts existed, the site could save lesson completions against a random ID stored in your browser, not linked to any person. We read those records once to carry your progress over into the new system.
Analytics
Insurpedia uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are useful and how people find the site. It collects information such as the pages you visit, the site that referred you, your device and browser type, and an approximate location derived from your IP address, and it sets first-party cookies (such as _ga) to tell new visits from returning ones. We also send it learning events, such as “completed a lesson” or “answered a question,” without your email or account ID. We use this in aggregate only. We don’t use it to identify you, and we don’t sell it. Google’s own handling of this data is described inGoogle’s privacy policy.
What we don’t do
We don’t sell insurance, process payments, use advertising cookies, or share your data with insurers, advertisers, or data brokers.
Who processes data for us
The site is hosted on Vercel. Accounts and learning progress are stored in a Neon Postgres database. Google provides sign-in and analytics. Each processes data on our behalf, as described above.
