Vacation Home Insurance: Final Assessment

5 questions. Score 70% or more to pass. Answer everything, then check your answers.

Each question earns Insurance IQ once, when you answer it correctly without having seen its answer. If you retake the assessment, you get a different version of each question you’ve already seen, so improving still counts. Once you’ve seen both versions of a question, you can keep practicing it, but it won’t change your IQ.

  1. 1. Rosa has $100,000 of personal property coverage on her main home, and her policy limits items kept elsewhere to 10%. What's the most it pays for belongings at her lake cabin?

Explanation: Ten percent of $100,000 is $10,000. That's why belongings kept at a second home are usually insured on that home's own policy.

  2. 2. A cabin's dwelling coverage is $250,000, and other structures coverage is 10% of it. What is the other structures limit?

Explanation: Ten percent of $250,000 is $25,000. If the garage, boathouse and dock together would cost more to rebuild, ask about raising the limit.

  3. 3. Before closing a vacation home for the winter, which two policy conditions are most worth checking?

  4. 4. An owner wants flood insurance for a coastal second home they already own outright. When does a new NFIP policy generally take effect?

  5. 5. An owner starts renting the vacation home to guests most weekends. What's the most important first step?

Explanation: The Texas regulator says most home policies won't pay for damage or injuries during short-term rentals. Some insurers allow it with notice or an endorsement; regular renting may need different coverage.

Educational only: this assessment measures what the course teaches. It says nothing about whether your own insurance is adequate, and it isn’t a professional evaluation of your policy.
